The negative form of "to be" is formed by placing "not" after the verb.
Note: When people speak they often blend two words together. This is called a contraction. It can also be written as a contraction using an apostrophe ('). "I" and "am" can be contracted. There is no contraction for "am" and "not". Two types of contractions are possible with the negative form of the verb "be". There is no difference in meaning. Contractions will be shown in many of the lessons that follow.
